Colours:
Research and independent tests conducted show that black text on a yellow background is the most effective combination for markings to be seen clearly underwater, particularly as this does not affect ROV cameras .
Champion Environ can now offer two variations on this recommendation;
- Fluorescent Yellow - Aquasign® Altus™
- Signal Yellow - Aquasign® Solis®
Both specifications conform to BS EN ISO 13628:1999 - "Petroleum and Natural Gas Industries - Design and Operation of Subsea Production Systems". Whilst the fluorescent pigments utilised in our Aquasign® Altus™ markers offer superior visibility in ultra deep applications for small idents these benefits can be outweighed by the additional protection requirement necessary during storage and shipment - see our fixing section for additional information on marker protection.
In addition to the standard marker colours of black text on yellow background, we can also offer a variety of different colours including blue, green, red, white and orange.
The use of different coloured antifouling subsea markers is a valuable technique for identifying flow lines, risers or umbilicals, as well as producing symbols and logos with an enhanced visual impact.
Text sizes
Aquasign® can be manufactured with a text size of 10mm (0.8 inches) to 900mm (35 inches). Underneath is a table showing text sizes which are in accordance with BS EN ISO 13628-1:1999 "Petroleum and natural gas industries - Design and operation of subsea production systems."

Fonts
The standard font used in the design process is Helvetica Bold. However, we can manufacture Aquasign® markers with text of almost any customer specified typeface and weight.
Shapes and sizes:
The maximum size that a single antifouling marker can be manufactured is 1000mm (˜35 inches) high or wide. Customer specifications that exceed this limit will be supplied in multiple sections for conjoining on site, or pre-assembled and bonded to flexible strapping or rigid backing plate.
Aquasign® standard marker thickness is now 3mm (˜0.1 inches). This thinner specification offers more flexibility than the traditional 6mm marker. Other thicknesses are available with the most popular alternatives being 6mm and 8.5mm.The product can be supplied cut to almost any shape.
Symbols & Logos
Symbols are generally used in a subsea environment to visually prompt ROV operators and divers of important information or potential hazards. Champion Environ can create most symbols, such as arrows, radioactive/chemical hazard signs etc.
We can also create logos on markers to make your brand and/or company name to stand out underwater.
